Kenong Rimba Park, Pahang, Malaysia: Official Information

Kenong Rimba Park is located at the fringe of Taman Negara on its eastern and northern boundaries. This green precinct covers a sprawling 128 square kilometers of Pahang’s tropical rainforest. Kenong Rimba Park is home to pockets of limestone caves, which have become the destination of spelunking enthusiasts. The crystal-clear waters that flow through the park and high cascading waterfalls are exotic backdrops to a large array of flora and fauna.

Fascinating Flora & Fauna

Kenong Rimba Park is dominated by lowland forests and riverine vegetation. Epiphytic vegetation such as ferns & wild orchids are abundant here, also lofty tualang tree (kompassia excelsa). Also in abundance is the gigantic ficus tree or pokok ara, which is popularly featured in many local folklore, proverbs and rhymes. A profusion of pink and white-water lilies floating on scattered water bodies around the park adds to the enchantment.

Wildlife

Elephants, tapirs, leopards and Deers are found in small numbers at Kenong Rimba Park Pahang. Smaller mammals such as porcupines, mousedeer’s, flying foxes, and river otters are easier to notice along the jungle trails. However, like in any other parts of the Tropical Rain Forest, these animals are easier heard than sighted, all due to the very dense vegetations.

Kenong Rimba Park Pahang Malaysia is a haven to bird watchers and nature lovers. The park is home to about 200 species of wild birds. Murai Batu (copsuchus malabaricus) is prized by bird lovers for their singing ability. Occasionally, hornbills and fishing eagles make their presence felt.

KENONG RIMBA PARK – Malaysia off the beaten path. Avoid the crowds in Taman Negara – part 1. Malaysia undiscovered. In this video you can see part 1 of my 2-day jungle tour to the undiscovered Kenong Rimba Park. I am going to do some trekking and exploring a few of the many limestone caves in the park. Kuala Lumpur is my first stop on my trip in Malaysia. After Kuala Lumpur I travel to Taman Negara. I discover Malaysia off the beaten path when I go to relatively undiscovered jungle of Kenong Rimba Park. I continue my trip to Penang for some cycling in the countryside and discover some beautiful street art and some delicious street food in Georgetown. I end my trip in Langkawi to see the famous sky bridge, do some island hopping and mangrove tour and enjoy the beautiful beaches.

Kenong Rimba Park Pahang Wildlife Jungle Train Adventure – Kuala Lipis / Part I

This video is the beginning of a Jungle adventure this time by train, this route is known as the Jungle Train or the The East Coast Line. To Kenong Rimba Park Pahang, we started in Kuala Lipis a town 160km northeast of Kuala Lumpur. Kuala Lipis was a gold-mining center before the British arrived in 1887. In 1898, it became the capital of Pahang until 1953. During this time, grand colonial buildings, such as the imposing District Offices and the Clifford School, and the Pahang Club were built. The hilltop house of the British Resident is now a hotel and museum.

The town grew and prospered with the coming of the railway in 1924. However, in August 1955, the state capital was shifted to Kuantan, and Kuala Lipis fell into a decline. We highly recommend spending at least a day there to visit the old town. Now onto the train journey. Part II coming soon. It runs from Tumpat just north of Kota Bharu in Kelantan down to Gemas in Negeri Sembilan where it joins with the west coastline which runs all the way from Singapore to Bangkok via Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

The name ‘East Coast Line’ is rather misleading – once the train leaves Tumpat it goes nowhere near the sea. Perhaps it is so-called because it links the east coast state of Kelantan to the rest of Malaysia’s rail network. Jungle Railway is a more accurate description because it passes through the sparsely populated and heavily forested interior of Peninsula Malaysia and skirts the Taman Negara and Kenong Rimba national parks.
