About Fraser’s Hill

Fraser’s Hill is perhaps the prettiest of all hill resorts in Malaysia. Nestling at 1,524 meters above sea level on the majestic Titiwangsa Range, it is about one and a half hours drive from Kuala Lumpur. This charming little hideaway with a population of about 1,000 is not unlike a quiet Scottish village.

Granite mock-Tudor cottages sit amidst the brilliantly-colored blooms of an English-style garden. Most of these bungalows are private residences but some have been converted into holiday bungalows for visitors. They enable visitors to enjoy a country-style holiday in a cool, refreshing ambience, where avenings bring along swirling mists to descend upon the little hamlet while cold winds breeze though the lofty pine trees.

Fraser’s Hill takes its name after a Scottish adventurer, Louis James Fraser who set up a tin ore trading station in the forested mountains on the Pahang – Selangor border. In later years, Bishop Ferguson-Davie mounted a search for Fraser but could not find him. Instead, the potential of hills as a cool getaway was discovered.

Little Hamlet, Fraser’s Hill

Life in the little hamlet of Fraser’s Hill revolve around the market square dominated by a small clock tower, the most photographed object in this highland retreat. Picturesque colonial-style buildings have found new uses as the post office, police station, a clinic, a tourist information centre, cafes and restaurants. For the bird lovers, there is also a Bird Interpretive Centre at the sport complex. Though equipped with adequate visitor amenities, development at this resort hideaway has been careful to preserve the environment. Thus, visitors are assured of Fraser’s Hills’ original charms.

Fraser Hill – Bukit Fraser History Malaysia

Fraser Hill Malaysia : The Most Tranquil Highland Places to Visit in Malaysia [Small Girl big World]

Fraser Hill (or Bukit Fraser in Malay) is a hill resort located on the Titiwangsa Ridge in the state of Pahang in Malaysia. I consider Fraser’s Hill (Bukit Fraser) as one of the most tranquil highland destination available in Malaysia. It is one of the most peaceful place to visit in Malaysia and a hidden gem.

Check this video if you wish to know the things to do in Fraser’s Hill or what to do in Fraser’s Hill? I will show you some of the fun activities of Fraser Hill attraction.

Fraser Hill (Bukit Fraser) includes seven peaks, with altitudes between 1,220 and 1,524 meters above sea level. The Meteorological Department station is measured at 1,280 m. Year round temperatures are between 17°C~25°C / 63°F~77°F.

The resort is situated 64.6 miles (104 km) from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur. At the foot of the steep ascent, at an altitude of only 800m, is The Gap, where a colonial rest house remains open. The winding 8 km single-track road up from The Gap is open in alternate directions each hour; odds hours for going up and even hours for going down. The drive from The Gap to Fraser Hill Malaysia (Bukit Fraser) takes less than 20 minutes.

Some visitors prefer to walk up, spotting birds and enjoying the noticeable fall in temperature. A new alternative road was opened in 2001, but from time to time this is closed due to landslides.

Fraser Hill – Bukit Fraser History Malaysia

Fraser’s Hill / Bukit Fraser Tour

Fraser’s Hill / Bukit Fraser / 福隆港 is a hill station located on the Titiwangsa Ridge in Raub District, Pahang, Malaysia. The hill station is situated 64.6 miles (104 km) from Kuala Lumpur. At the foot of the steep ascent, at an altitude of only 800m, is The Gap, where a colonial resthouse used to be. The winding 8 km single-track road up from The Gap is open in alternate directions each hour; odds hours for going up and even hours for going down. The drive from The Gap to Fraser’s Hill takes less than 20 minutes.

A new alternative road was opened in 2001, but from time to time this is closed due to landslides; landslides however are a rare occurrence today. The old Gap-Fraser Hill road today serves as one way ingress to Fraser Hill while a new road opened in 2000 was made a one way egress.

The “center” of the Hill Station is at the intersection of Jalan Genting and Jalan Lady Guillemard, with the much-photographed clock tower marking the spot. Most restaurants and shops are clustered here, while the golf course takes up the bottom of the valley and bungalows and swanky residences dot the hills all around.

Fraser’s Hill derives its name from Louis James Fraser, a solitary Scottish pioneer, who set up a tin-ore trading post in the 1890s.The British army had not explored the Titiwangsa Range, so Fraser recruited guides and coolies for an expedition to the upper ridges, prospecting for gold or other valuable metals. At the top he found an ancient forest of moss-draped trees and ferns with a prehistoric appearance, kept constantly moist in the cloud layer.
