Kuala Sepetang, Perak: Wikipedia Information

Kuala Sepetang (Jawi: كوالا سيڤيتڠ; Chinese: 十八丁) is a coastal town located in Larut, Matang and Selama District, Perak, Malaysia. Also known by English-speaking locals as Port Weld (Chinese: Chinese: 砵威) after a former Governor, Frederick Weld.

It is a thriving fishing village, and the main jumping-off point to the river mouth community of Kuala Sangga, which is a Chinese fishing community at the river mouth which specializes in fish breeding in cages. The Port Weld railway station was located at the centre of town.

The whole railway line from here to Taiping, which was the first railway line in the Peninsular, is now dismantled, and now only the ticketing booth and the Port Weld railway signboard remain. The ticketing booth is now a Chinese coffee shop, and the shopowner has been maintaining the railway signboard.

Kuala Sepetang has seafood and it has a restaurant situated on the upper floor of a shop lot overlooking the river. Kuala Sepetang is also well known for its mangrove swamp reserve park which is open to the public daily. It has a boardwalk built over the swamp for tourists, and chalets in which tourists can rent to stay the night on the riverfront.

There are also charcoal kilns, some of which are open for tourist visits. Besides fishing village, charcoal kiln and mangroves to enjoy, one can take a boat tour along the mangrove river to see fireflies at night and eagles.

The village is very popular with its Curry Mee (Only sold at afternoon time) and Pau.

Kuala Sepetang is also famous for Prawn Noodle, also known as Mee Udang, run by many Malay stalls.

Kuala Sepetang is a vibrant fishing village located in Perak and about 40 minute drive from Taiping. Formerly known as Port Weld, you can find its excellent array of activities, from visiting Charcoal Factory, eating Mee Udang at Mak Jah, saying hello to 131 years old Port Weld train station signage or even explore on a boat.

A trip to Kuala Sepetang will surely take you back in time. This small but not forgotten fishing village along the Straits of Malacca has a long history and a tightly knitted community that has not allowed the progress of modernity disturb their daily routine. The day breaks slow and steady with a favourite bowl of breakfast noodles or roti canai at the market stalls.

Then the usual daily routine of work and relaxation takes over! Nowadays some eco tourism activities can be seen at the pier. Famed for the fishery ,and fire fires in the mangrove swamps, Kuala Sepetang is an easy getaway from the city and surely a relaxing, enlightening and educational one!
